Biography

Fabian Holland is a young contemporary singer / songwriter / guitarist who is influenced by traditional folk music from around Great Britain, together with an upbringing in traditional American Folk and Blues. All this is then enriched with his love of altered / open tunings and his continuing emphasis upon musical improvisation. He now rarely plays the same song in the same way, resulting in most performances becoming unique in some way.

Fabian has been a student to the guitar for most of his life and his love / hate relationship towards the guitar has been consistent throughout.

Fabian first got introduced to creating music by picking up an old classical guitar at a car boot sale when he was seven years old. At around the age of ten Fabian began to realise he had a great need and passion for song writing, poetry and more importantly story telling. He continued writing all through his childhood despite being severely dyslexic.

But It wasn’t until Fabian started secondary school that he really started to struggle academically and learning something like music theory just seemed an impossible achievement. It was in 2004, following two years of full-time study of guitar at
Academy of Contemporary Music, (where he was tutored and influenced by the late great fingerstyle guitarist Eric Roche and also Newton Faulkner was in the year above him), that out of frustration he put his guitar aside and concentrated on developing lyrics, poems and stories, exploring different styles like early hip-hop and other lyrically based forms of music from around the world.

In 2006 he started playing acoustic guitar again and moved from Farnham to the Majella mountains of Abruzzo, Italy for inspiration. This gave Fabian time to develop acoustic fingerstyle guitar, learning music theory in a way that worked for him and his dyslexia. Encouraged by other musicians that he met, in 2008 he began writing his own songs again and performing, initially as support to others and then solo gigs on his own.

At the end of January 2010, Fabian left his beloved Majella mountains and began an extended trip to the UK. He is travelling to various locations to busk, play open-mic nights, play gigs and get heard.

Fabian Holland now plays in any pub, bar, venue or street he can.

Some of his songs are quite long, but he has stories to tell and he says that he has to tell them fully to give justice to the stories - most of which are based on real people or events.
